Get to know

Dick.

In a regional city, far from the CBD, A conservative accountant father and his good-looking bisexual son will soon find out they have been chasing the same thing —

The love of Dick.

When Dick, a larger-than-life transwoman, moved into town, the already strained relationship between father and son took an even more dramatic turn. As they get to have more of Dick they start to question everything they think they know about themselves, each other and the world.

Chasing Dick tackles significant themes such as the intergenerational gap in views on sexuality, gender identity, and expression, along with the universal search for connection and understanding within families. The play offers a profound commentary on the evolving nature of love and identity in contemporary society through its heartfelt dialogue and poignant interactions.

“An epic romance in the vein of Tenessee Williams”.

Best Performer in a Play

Melbourne – 2023

Broadwayworld.com

“It's not often you go to the theatre and watch a play that you'd be happy if it were longer! But that happened today. Dax Carnay-Hanrahan has created a show with three characters who are flawed and yet charming, and whom one is happy to spend time with.”

- Robert Jarman

“There is always a tightrope walked between self-deprecation and reinforcing internalised phobias. Carnay plays in this space with charisma and ease, accessibly down to earth without ever disempowering themselves.”

— Theatre Travels

“(The) Filipino Non-Binary Creative Powerhouse,

Dax Carnay”

—TimeOut.com

“Carnay is not afraid of the fraught social topics surrounding gender expression, however, she is much more concerned with the human beings who sit underneath all of that fear and confusion.”

— whatdidshethink.com

“Carnay is nevertheless an open and vulnerable performer and by show’s end they are standing in their full power”

— Theatre Travels

After successful and acclaimed sold-out seasons of “The Six Guys an Immigrant Transperson of Colour Will Date in Melbourne” and “Transwoman Kills Influencer”, we see the latest instalment of Dax Carnay’s Trans/Scripts series. Initially commissioned for the inaugural year of The Festival of Australian Queer Theatre and a developmental performance at Queer Nu Work/ QDP showcase in Sydney, Chasing Dick will now be seen on Melbourne stages!
